Buying a split system, step by step
A split system is a two-part install, so it pays to plan it before you order. Here is what happens, and where we help.
Size the cellar
Split systems are sized to the room, not just the cubic feet. Glass, stone, lighting and the temperature outside the cellar all change the load. Send us the details for a free heat-load check.
Use the cellar calculatorChoose the system
Pick the evaporator style (wall-mounted, ceiling, ducted or concealed) and the condenser. The 220V Advanced H.E. condenser is built for outdoor installs; the 110V condenser suits indoor spaces like a garage, attic or mechanical room.
Plan the install
A licensed HVAC/R technician runs the line set between the two units, charges the system and starts it up. The line set, drain line and any ducting are sourced separately. Your installer will confirm the run length and power.
Activate the warranty
The 2-year limited warranty starts on the purchase date and is activated once your technician submits WhisperKOOL's Product Warranty Checklist and WhisperKOOL approves it. We help you with the paperwork.

By selecting the 24V Thermostat Conversion Kit, you have acknowledged that the system will not be built with the standard WhisperKOOL control or liquid measuring bottle probe. You will have to source and purchase your own 24V smart thermostat to run the equipment. The WhisperKOOL Customer Satisfaction Team does not provide technical support for smart thermostats.

The BTU/h value range shown here is a theoretical number. There are often circumstances under which a cellar design may require a larger unit due to variables not accounted for in the formula. For example, these variables could be building materials (such as glass, stone, concrete, etc.) that do not offer the insulation capacity required to maintain the optimal cellar environment. We recommend purchasing a unit with a larger capacity to compensate for these unaccounted-for variables. An undersized unit can lead to premature failure and will most likely prevent the cellar from reaching your desired temperature.
High Efficiency Condensers
The 220V High Efficiency Condensers offer a host of advantages over our traditional 110V condensers, including simplified installation, ultra-quiet operation, energy efficiency, & ability to operate in extreme climates.
Product Warranty for Split System Units
A limited 2-year product warranty with up to an additional (1) year grace period for installation is offered with all split systems. While the warranty starts at the date of purchase, this warranty is not activated until a Product Warranty Checklist has been submitted and approved by WhisperKOOL.

Do I need an HVAC technician to install a split system?
Yes. A split system has two units joined by refrigerant lines, so a licensed HVAC/R technician has to install it, charge it and start it up. Installing it any other way voids the WhisperKOOL warranty.
What is not included in the box?
The copper line set that connects the evaporator and condenser is not included, and neither is the drain line or any ducting for ducted models. An exterior housing for an outdoor condenser is available as an option. Your technician will size the line set for your run.
How far can the condenser be from the cellar?
On Platinum, Ceiling Mount and Quantum systems the condensing unit can sit up to 100 line feet from the evaporator, so it can go outdoors, in a garage, attic or mechanical room. Ducted evaporators can sit up to 25 duct feet from the cellar. Exact limits for each model are in its owner's manual.
110V or 220V Advanced H.E. condenser: which one?
The 220V Advanced H.E. condenser is made for outdoor installs: a larger coil, quieter fans and lower power use, and it copes with extreme temperatures. The 110V condenser suits indoor spaces such as a garage, attic or mechanical room. If you are unsure, tell us where it will go and we will recommend one.
Will it run in cold weather?
Split condensers are designed for roughly 20°F to 110°F. For colder locations, WhisperKOOL's cold weather start kit keeps the system running well below freezing, and it is included with many models. Check the product description, or ask us before you order.
How does the warranty work on a split system?
WhisperKOOL split systems carry a limited 2-year product warranty from the purchase date. It is activated once the installing technician submits the Product Warranty Checklist and WhisperKOOL approves it. As an authorized dealer, we help you register the system and file any claim.
