Can I install a self-contained WhisperKOOL myself?
Yes. Self-contained through-the-wall units like the SC PRO mount between the studs of an existing wall and plug in, so they do not need a licensed HVAC/R technician. You do need a dedicated circuit and a drain line, and the room on the exhaust side has to stay ventilated.
What size unit does my cellar need?
Start with the cellar's volume (length × width × height in feet), then adjust for insulation, glass, stone and how hot the room behind the unit gets. WhisperKOOL's ratings assume a fully insulated cellar with a vapor barrier at 55°F. If your cellar is near the top of a unit's range, or has glass or stone, go one size up. Our free heat-load calculation removes the guesswork.
Where does the hot air go?
Out the back of the unit, into the room on the other side of the wall. That room should stay under 85°F and have enough space and airflow to take the heat. If it gets hotter, consider the Extreme series or a split system.
Is it loud?
The compressor and fans sit in the wall, so a self-contained unit makes some noise inside the cellar. The SC PRO's newer fan design runs quieter than older models. If you want near-silence in the cellar, look at ducted or split systems.
I'm replacing an older WhisperKOOL. Will it fit?
Many SC PRO units fit openings left by older SC and XLT models, but not every one is a direct swap. Send us your old model number and we will confirm the fit before you order.
Do I need to connect a drain line?
Yes, always. The unit produces condensate while it cools, and the drain line must be connected to protect your cellar and keep the warranty valid.
What warranty comes with it?
WhisperKOOL self-contained units carry a limited 2-year warranty plus a 5-year compressor warranty from the date of purchase. As an authorized dealer, we help you register the unit and file any claim.
